You can see from the images that we make some highly
engineered structural milled parts for our own use.
All jigs are designed and made in-house. Generally
we are working with high grade alumuniums, acetal,
nylon and some steel. We have even milled timber to
make a 3 dimensional plug of our fuel tank. This was
designed using the solidworks 3D Cad programme. The
tank was made in sections, the pieces were then glued
together and sanded before sending to the mould maker
as the plug to make the aluminium mould. The tank
is 70 litres and is produced using rotational plasic
moulding. Plastic beads are poured into the aluminium
mould and it is heated whilst being rotated, the inertia
pushing the now liquid plastic to the shape of the
mould. The same process is used for making polyethylene
kayaks however the fuel tank is made from a special
fuel resistant material.
The Bivacor heart: is shown in the image gallery.
Taken from the companies web site: http://bivacor.com/
"The Bivacor is a device designed to support or totally
replace a failing heart". Of course the one we made
was a non working model built to scale. We were supplied
the working cad drawings from them we programmed the
CNC machine and designed and manufactured the jigs
to hold the various parts. The next project will be
a working model made from titanium.
